FINE MARGINS FOR TAKA AT MISANO18 September 2021 | San Marino GP Qualifying Takaaki Nakagami will start from the fifth row in the Grand Prix of San Marino after narrowly missing out on a spot in Q2 on Saturday. The LCR Honda IDEMITSU rider pushed to the limit, but was unable to progress from a highly-competitive Q1 session and will now start his team’s home GP from 13th position on the grid.
Sitting 13th overnight, the Japanese star found considerable improvement in FP3 and battled hard to secure a top-10 spot, eventually finishing in 12th – missing out by just five hundredths of a second. He demonstrated encouraging race pace by taking seventh in FP4, but saw his hopes of advancing from Q1 scuppered by a late crash, leaving him third in the session.Takaaki Nakagami – 13th (1’32.210)“Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it through to Q2 this afternoon. The qualifying session was good, I had good pace and the feeling on the bike was better, we were able to make a big step and improve the bike and I was confident. But I had a mistake in the qualifying session (Q1) and had a crash at turn 10 and that cost us quite a lot. We couldn’t make Q2 after that, but the positive thing is that the feeling on the bike is really, really good now, so I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race from P13. It wasn’t the result that I expected, but we have confidence on the bike, good pace for the race, so I’ll try my best and hopefully we can get a great result.”
